Hi, I’m Hugo L. Espuny.
I’m a Spanish business owner and manager, and a systems engineer by training and vocation.
Among many other things, I build and maintain ubiquitous systems — mostly servers, the infrastructure that keeps things running when no one is watching — and I keep several open-source projects going alongside my corporate work.
I’ve tinkered with open-source operating systems and software since 1993, and been around computers a while longer — my first machine was a venerable Commodore 64, back in 1983.
I was a Debian developer from 2003 to 2005, credited with the first Debian packages of several PHP content apps — PHP-Nuke, PostNuke and Drupal. I remain a strong advocate for open-source software, and firmly opposed to patents of any kind — software or otherwise.
Systems security has been a long-standing interest of mine: understanding how things hold up, how they break, and how to make them harder to break — a habit as much as a discipline. On the record side, I’m credited with CVE-2004-0833 (Debian DSA-554-1), a sendmail/SASL default-credentials flaw I found and reported back in 2004.
Lately I’ve been absorbed by the AI world, building a few projects of my own, such as Uttera.
This notebook is a place to think out loud — unhurried and unconstrained by comments.
If you want to reach me, you’ll find me through the usual channels — or on GitHub.
